In the irony of ironies, a Planned Parenthood abortionist who was once profiled as having killed 31 babies in abortions in one day has been nominated for a human rights award.

Planned Parenthood abortionist Colleen McNicholas is among three finalists selected from across the world for the European Union’s top human rights prize, the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought. This is the first time in the history of the prize that an abortionist or an abortion advocate has been nominated.

Here’s more:

McNicholas, Justyna Wydrzyńska, of Poland, and Morena Herrera, of El Salvador, were jointly nominated as “women fighting for free, safe and legal abortion”

“As far-right politicians try to ban abortion across swaths of the U.S. and internationally, I’m thankful for the European Parliament’s nomination and spotlight on this critical issue of human rights,” McNicholas said. “Let this be a sign to those trying to roll back access to abortion: the world is watching.”

The finalists were chosen in a vote Oct. 12 by the EU’s foreign affairs and development committees. Parliament President Roberta Metsola and the political group leaders will decide Thursday on the winner.

Among the abortion advocates, the nominating committee wrote that McNicholas has a “strong track record of high-quality patient care and impactful reproductive health advocacy.”

The irony is McNicholas literally kills her patients.

McNicholas was profiled in the May issue of Marie Claire magazine.  Writer Kayla Webley portrays McNicholas as a heroine “on the front lines of the abortion wars.” The author applauds the fact that McNicholas is so proficient at her trade that she is able to “terminate 31 pregnancies a day,” and quotes her as being “passionate and committed” to her work.

McNicholas ended the lives of unborn babeis on a regular basis at the Reproductive Health Services Clinic operated by Planned Parenthood in the Central West End of St. Louis City until Missouri protected babies from abortions and Planned Parenthood had to stop killing babies.

A local abortion buffer zone, implemented through the use of a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO), which criminalises offers of help as well as prayer outside an abortion clinic, may be found unlawful after it was challenged in the High Court today on the grounds that it restricts otherwise lawful activity within private dwellings.

The buffer zone in Bournemouth has been in operation since October last year, and establishes a zone in which “engaging in an act of approval/disapproval… with respect to issues related to abortion services” is prohibited. The zone prohibits offers of help and explicitly forbids prayer.

Today, Livia Tossici-Bolt and Christian Concern sought to challenge the local Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) that creates the buffer zone, on the grounds that the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council did not have the power to enact a PSPO that restricts lawful activity conducted in private dwellings.

Being pro-life in a private dwelling could be criminal

According to reports, lawyers argued that the way the PSPO has been drawn up makes no distinction between public and private dwellings within the buffer zone. This means that if someone could be seen or heard praying against abortion in their home from the street, this could result in a fine. It may also mean that if someone wanted to hang a pro-life sign within their own home, this could also be criminalised.

The lawyers argued that the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, which gives local councils the power to create and enforce PSPOs, does not give them the power to reach into private dwellings in this manner.

PSPOs were introduced “to help ensure that the law-abiding majority can use and enjoy public spaces, safe from antisocial behaviour”. However, they have been used by a number of local councils, including in Birmingham and Ealing, to create buffer zones, which criminalise offers of help and prayer.

Ahead of the hearing, Miss Tossici-Bolt said “I find [it] extremely concerning that unfounded accusations of such reprehensible behaviour have been used for ideological gains to discredit genuine humanitarian endeavours. We have already been intimidated out of exercising our freedom of thought and of expression, but have continued to defend these fundamental rights with a peaceful conduct”.

“Vigils are there to serve women and couples in a pregnancy crisis, with information that opens new possibilities to them, therefore enabling them to make a true choice when, often, they believed they had none. We also believe our presence on the ground is vital to women who might have been brought to the BPAS facility under coercion…”.

“Silent prayer, within itself, is not unlawful”

Legislation was passed in March of this year that makes it a criminal offence to “influence” any person seeking to access abortion services within 150m of any abortion clinic across England and Wales. It has not come into force yet.

Livia Tossici-Bolt’s challenge comes after the Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, last month reminded police in the UK that “silent prayer, within itself, is not unlawful”, raising questions about the legislation passed earlier this year that makes “influencing” any person who wants to access abortion services at an abortion facility illegal.

Braverman’s letter, released at the beginning of September, came just days before the First Minister of Scotland, Humza Yousaf, signalled his continued support for the introduction of buffer zones in Scotland.

“[H]olding lawful opinions”, the letter reminds officers, “even if those opinions may offend others, is not a criminal offence”.

In the letter, the Home Secretary quotes His Majesty’s Chief Inspector approvingly “The police […] aren’t there to champion social change or take sides. This includes a requirement to preserve all rights, including the right to free speech”.

Right To Life UK spokesperson, Catherine Robinson, said “Many women have been helped outside abortion clinics by pro-life volunteers who have provided them with practical support, which made it clear to them that they had another option other than going through with the abortion”.

“This seems to be a truly draconian PSPO that reaches into the homes of ordinary people. It creates an offence for being privately pro-life. It is direct viewpoint discrimination”.

Martin Haskell, a late-term abortionist supports Issue 1 in Ohio, which aims to legalize abortions up to birth. Haskell, the inventor of the partial-birth abortion procedure, donated $100,000 to support Issue 1 so he can continue ending the lives of viable babies in abortions.

As the Washington Examiner reports:

Haskell, who invented the procedure in Ohio and is the director of Women’s Med Center in Dayton, made the six-figure donation in March, campaign finance reports show.

The money was given to Ohio Physicians for Reproductive Rights PAC, one of three major groups pushing Issue One, a constitutional amendment that would end any statewide restrictions on abortion in Ohio.

“By allowing abortion-on-demand through all nine months of pregnancy and eliminating commonsense health and safety protections for women, Issue One gives free rein to late-term abortionists like Martin Haskell,” Amy Natoce, press secretary for amendment opponent organization Protect Women Ohio, told the Washington Examiner. “No Ohioan wants to bring that type of extremism and tragedy to our state.”

“Haskell gave $100,000 to the campaign supporting Issue One because he knows it is an investment in his late-term abortion practice,” Natoce, who pointed to past congressional testimony Haskell gave in 1996, in which he mentioned “routinely” performing such abortions at 20-24 weeks, said.

Meanwhile, the heartbeat law has saved thousands of babies from abortion in Ohio in 2022, and it was only in effect for 11 weeks before a court blocked it. Had the pro-life law been in effect the entire year, abortions in Ohio could have dropped to very low numbers as mothers find better solutions and babies enjoy living.

As it was, the Ohio Department of Health’s newly released data show a total of 18,488 abortions for 2022, which is down from a total of a total of 21,813 abortions in 2021. That means 3,325 babies were saved from abortion compared to the previous year. And with Ohio’s population growing, that means even more babies were saved.

Should Issue 1 pass, Ohio will become the most radical abortion regime in the country, allowing for late-term abortion through all nine months of pregnancy, including when science confirms an unborn child is capable of feeling pain. As a constitutional amendment, Issue 1 will trump state law, rendering the heartbeat law unenforceable.

By failing to explicitly define viability, and by giving abortionists the final word in determining when post-viability abortions can be performed on a case-by-case basis, Issue 1 leaves the door wide open for painful, late-term abortions. Issue 1 also contains a major loophole by allowing late-term abortions to protect the “health” of the mother. The United States Supreme Court has interpreted “health” to include not just a mother’s physical health, but also her mental, emotional, social and financial health, essentially permitting late-term abortion for any reason.

Today, the Wisconsin Senate passed legislation, entitled Embrace Them Both, that protects and supports pregnant mothers and their preborn children. Senate Bills 343, 345, and 346, together, clarify and strengthen Wisconsin abortion laws and provide the necessary resources for both moms and babies to survive and thrive in a post-Roe Wisconsin. The Embrace Them Both bills now move to the Wisconsin Assembly for public hearings and floor passage before advancing to the Governor’s desk.

“Pro-Life Wisconsin thanks the Wisconsin Senate for their courage and compassion in passing this life-affirming bill package,” said Matt Sande, Pro-Life Wisconsin Legislative Director. “We especially thank bill author Senator Romaine Quinn for his vision in introducing, and perseverance in advocating for, the Embrace Them Both legislation as we work to build a culture of life and true prosperity in Wisconsin.”

Senate Bill 343 passed on a 22 to 10 vote. The bill clarifies that medical procedures intended to save the life of a pregnant mother, and not intended to kill her preborn baby, are not abortions. Such procedures include medical emergency early induction or C-section, removal of a miscarriage, or removal of an ectopic pregnancy. Abortion, statutorily defined as the intentional killing of a living preborn human being, is never medically necessary to save the life or improve the health of the mother.

Senate Bill 345 passed on a 22 to 10 vote. The bill requires the Department of Health Services to award an ongoing $1 million annual grant to Choose Life Wisconsin, Inc. to assist the non-profit organization in providing grants to pregnancy resource centers (PRCs) across Wisconsin. PRCs support vulnerable mothers and fathers with free pregnancy tests and ultrasounds, prenatal and parenting classes, STD testing and education, family planning and education, pregnancy counseling, adoption support, and abortion pill reversal, among other vital services.

Senate Bill 346 passed on a 24 to 8 vote. The bill requires the Department of Children and Families to administer a competitive grant program that provides $5 million biennially to an adoption organization that provides financial assistance to parents seeking adoptions. Assisting prospective adoptive parents with a $10,000 award will help many on the financial fence move forward with this loving gift.

Embrace Them Both provides real solutions for women and families by offering attractive incentives to not only choose life but to choose Wisconsin as a state that protects human life and encourages the growth of healthy families,” said Sande. “It rejects the lie that abortion is a legitimate solution and offers ways to assist moms and dads in their most immediate need. We look forward to working with the Wisconsin Assembly to pass this critical bill package.”

A Catholic healthcare clinic was in federal court today challenging a Colorado law that bans giving women a natural hormone to reverse the effects of the abortion pill.

In Bella Health and Wellness v. Weiser, Colorado agreed earlier this year not to enforce the law until three state licensing boards had implemented the regulations required by the statute. Now that these regulations have been issued—leaving Bella and its patients in jeopardy—Bella once again asked the court to protect its life-saving ministry to help women discontinue unwanted abortions.

Founded by Catholic mother and daughter nurse practitioners Dede Chism and Abby Sinnett, Bella offers life-affirming, dignified healthcare to men, women, and children. Like healthcare clinics across the nation, Bella offers progesterone—a naturally occurring hormone that is essential to the maintenance of a healthy pregnancy—to women at risk of miscarriage.

In some cases, progesterone has also been shown to maintain healthy pregnancies when women take the first drug in the two-step abortion pill process but then change their minds and decide to continue their pregnancies. Consistent with its religious mission to uphold the dignity of every life, Bella also offers progesterone to these women who seek help to keep their unborn children after taking the first abortion pill.

“We founded Bella because we believe that the miracle of life is worth protecting at every stage and in every circumstance,” said Dede Chism and Abby Sinnett, cofounders of Bella Health and Wellness. “Under our care, mothers who choose life have access to a safe treatment that increases the chances they will give birth to healthy babies. I pray that we will be able to continue this life-saving ministry to women who come to us in need of help.”

Earlier this year, Colorado passed a law that targets pro-life clinics like Bella by making it unprofessional conduct to offer women progesterone when seeking to reverse the effects of the abortion pill. Bella asked a federal court to block the law and protect its ability to help pregnant women in need of life-saving care. In April, Colorado agreed to put the law on hold until three state medical boards weighed in on the safety of abortion pill reversal. During that time, Bella successfully helped multiple women continue their pregnancies, including one who recently gave birth to a healthy baby. However, despite evidence of progesterone’s safety and efficacy, the state has still banned it. As a result, providing progesterone to women who change their minds about abortion remains unprofessional conduct in Colorado—and Bella’s providers run the risk of losing their medical licenses and suffering crippling fines if they continue their ministry to women who seek their help.

“Colorado is forcing women to continue unwanted abortions and punishing the doctors who help them safely continue their pregnancies,” said Rebekah Ricketts, counsel at Becket. “It is outrageous and wrong for Colorado to deprive these women of their ability to choose life, and to ban faith-based clinics like Bella from serving them.”

A decision from the court is expected in the coming weeks.

Today, proabortion Democrats on the Michigan State Senate Housing and Human Services Committee voted in unison to send central elements of the dangerous Reproductive Health Act (RHA) to the Senate Floor for a vote.

The 8-3 vote was along party lines with every Democrat voting in favor of repealing long standing health and safety regulations, and the three Republicans voting to keep the protections in place.

This brazen action comes on the heels of new polling data from the Marketing Resource Group, LLC (MRG) which demonstrates overwhelming support for longstanding legal protections for women seeking an abortion, protections now threatened by RHA passage. (MRG MI Poll, Fall 2023, October 2-8, 2023, MOE 4%)

“Today’s move by proabortion members on the Senate Housing and Human Services Committee appears to be a Hail Mary effort to move the dangerous Reproductive Health Act, currently stalled in the House,” stated Genevieve Marnon, Legislative Director, Right to Life of Michigan.

The RHA removes informed consent and 24-hour waiting period protections, strips abortion clinic licensing regulations, including regulations that ensure clinic hallways are wide enough for EMS workers and a stretcher in the case of an emergency, eliminates the requirement for sanitary humane disposal of fetal remains, removes transparency for the abortion industry by eliminating abortion reporting, and more. Currently, the bill to eliminate the barrier to using taxpayer dollars to pay for other people’s abortion is stalled in the State House and not included in the Senate package of bills.

Follow LifeNews.com on Instagram for pro-life pictures and videos.

New polling data (link) released yesterday from MRG demonstrates overwhelming support for existing regulations threatened by central portions of the RHA:

  • 72% of Michigan voters want the 24-hour waiting period with allows for informed consent to remain in place. This is up from 63% in May; and
  • A stunning 95% of Michigan voters support abortion clinic health and safety regulations. This is up from 90% in May. (See the full polling results here).

The RHA now sits before the full Senate for a vote while stalled in the House. Right to Life of Michigan implores all Michigan state senators to VOTE NO on the Reproductive Health Act in an effort to protect a woman’s right to know and hold abortion clinics to basic health and safety standards for medical care.
